FPR Energy

At FPR Energy, we are scaling particle based Concentrated Solar Thermal (CST) technology to deliver zero emissions, 24/7 heat and power.

24/7

Provides reliable, dispatchable heat and power.

1200°C

Powering high-grade industrial processes beyond typical renewables.

49%

Of industrial heat demand exceeds 500°C. FPR Energy's particle CST technology delivers the heat at scales required by industry.

Pioneering particle-based CST

Our scalable CST technology uses ceramic particles to provide cost effective, zero-emissions energy that is created and stored sustainably.

High operating temperatures, proven at 850C and up to 1200C readily achievable, with fewer energy losses

Higher temperature & efficiency

Simplified materials and balance of plant

Reduced cost

Up to 24 hours of bulk energy storage, providing
continuous 24/7 operation

Extended energy storage

Chemically inert and easier to handle materials

Improved safety & operability

Proudly Australian developed, FPR Energy's CST technology marks a major step forward in industrial decarbonisation.

How the technology works

High-temperature solar energy, delivered on demand.

FPR Energy's CST technology captures solar energy using heliostats to heat inert ceramic particles. These particles store energy for on-demand industrial heat or electricity generation creating a continuous, efficient energy cycle. Our system is proven at 850°C, with 1200°C readily achievable.

1

Sunlight Collection

Heliostats (mirrors) concentrate sunlight onto a central receiver.

2

Particle Heating

Particles in the receiver are heated up to 1,200°C, capturing high-temperature energy.

3

Energy Storage

Heated particles are stored in a silo, holding thermal energy for extended periods. When needed, the stored heat is transferred via particle heat exchangers.

4

Energy Utilisation

Heat powers industrial processes or generates electricity through a steam turbine.

5

Particle Recirculation

Cool particles are returned to the receiver for reheating, maintaining the energy cycle.
